What is the difference between "Madarin" and "Chinese", and how should someone study the language?
|
Mandarin is the "standard pronunciation" (also known as ¡ˇăBeijing Standard Chinese¡ˇŔ). There is only one Chinese language while there are many different dialects. The writing system is standard regardless of dialect, though there are simplified characters and traditional characters. All national television and radio channels are broadcast in Mandarin Chinese. Universities in the mainland and in Taiwan offer classes taught in Mandarin. Any person with a desire to learn Chinese, except for those making special linguistic needs, would be best served by studying Mandarin and surrounding themselves in an environment where the greatest possible number of people speak it on an everyday basis. |
